Founded by former NFL player Kevin Johnson, Fixin’s Soul Kitchen features recipes that come directly from Johnson’s southern heritage. The Detroit location is the fourth for the chain joining locations in several other historic African American communities. Located in Paradise Valley, Johnson told The Detroit Free Press that he thinks Fixin’s is setting the “trajectory of having this be a really special block in the downtown area.”
