Tyrone White wanted to build a business that gave underprivileged communities second chances and inspiration. In 2017, he purchased MLK Deli before opening this second location, Deanwood Deli. He now hires men from his community and can be an example of a thriving enterprise in Ward 7, where he was raised, and Ward 8, where he lives now.

The meals focus on D.C. icons and landmarks like the local favorite, the “Big Chair Beef Reuben,” the “John Wall Ham Sandwich,” and the “Mr. Lucas Fried Chicken,” named for Gregory Lucas, MLK DELI’s original owner.
